Lina Reyes

August 3, 1963 — July 30, 2017

Lina Maria Reyes died in her home on July 30, 2017 at 6:10 a.m. in Saratoga Springs, Utah due to her heart failure disease. She was 53, passing away 4 days shy of her 54th birthday. Lina was born on August 3, 1963 in Sogamoso, Boyaca Colombia to her parents Mauricio Reyes and Consuelo Torres. Lina came to the United States in 1983 to study at BYU. There she learned English and studied various things that interested her. She later studied at UVU.

Lina was a special soul, always so generous to everyone. With a great smile on her face and ready to help others in any way without ever expecting anything in return. Lina was loved by many on this earth. She described herself as an untamed heart who is honest, inquisitive, and generous. She loved to read philosophy and poetry. And she truly loved her lovely dogs. She was a very loyal and true friend. She loved to clean and decorate and make things beautiful. When she was well enough, she loved to spend time nurturing her garden. She was an optimist in all things and never complained through her illness. She was loved by all the nurses and medical staff who treated her and was always joyful and positive to be around. She loved her Heavenly Father and had faith that he had a plan and purpose for her life. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and she stood firm in that testimony through all of her trials and adversity. Lina knew she was going to live with her Heavenly Father again and that gave her peace and hope. She is now happy and free and is living peacefully with her earthly father Mauricio and her grandmother Julieta. We rejoice that she is no longer suffering and in pain from her many years of illness. In the last days of her life, as her body was getting weaker, she loved so fiercely. Every time she would wake she would whisper “Mom, I love you.”

Lina is survived by her mother, Consuelo Torres of Saratoga Springs, her sister Marianella Reyes of Atlanta, Georgia, her two nephews Eric Tweet and Andrew Reyes Tweet, her loved dogs Samuel and Brulee, and her cat Irish.

Lina chose to be cremated so she could stay with her beloved mother. Funeral services will be held at the LDS church building at 2101 North Providence Drive in Saratoga Springs, Utah 84045. The service will be held on her 54th birthday, August 3, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. There we will celebrate the life of our daughter, sister, and friend.
